Project Overview
Communication is an important tool in linking us as towns and villages with common interests, tastes and concerns. We feel this can be enhanced through the airwaves and that the emergence of a community FM radio station serving much of Cumberland and Westmoreland Counties is meeting that objective. The Tantramar Community Radio Society, a not-for-profit organization, was formed for that sole purpose.
Our application to the CRTC was approved on July 15, 2009 and the station signed on the air in July of 2011 at 107.9 FM with 6500 watts under the call letters CFTA. We offer programming which is under-represented in the mainstream media. It is community-driven programming with a strong core of volunteers providing their ideas and concepts and contributing to each day of broadcasting.
We are committed to engaging our listeners with an inclusive, intelligent and innovative alternative experience. Our music, concerts, news, interviews and other programming ideas reflect the rural Maritime communities in which we live and work. Local area artists and performers have a venue to promote and perform their works. It will also become a training facility for aspiring announcers, news readers, writers and those with other talents. Unlike private commercial radio, any profits we accrue will either go back into the continued growth of the station or toward community projects. We are not obligated to shareholders, but to you, our listeners and members.
We are asking for your support for our endeavour either through a financial or in kind contribution. If you are a member of the business community in Amherst, Springhill. Sackville, Oxford, Pugwash, Parrsboro or surrounding areas, and wish to advertise on Tantramar Community Radio 107.9, we have a commercial package that will assist you in promoting your business. You can contact our Sales Manager Dave Smith at 661-2550.
