The Tantramar Community Radio Society Annual General Meeting

The Tantramar Community Radio Society - owner and operator of CFTA-FM - will hold its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday evening February 7th, 2012 beginning at 6:30.

The meeting will be held in the CFTA Boardroom at 141 East Victoria Street, Suite S (Acadia Street entrance).
Items on the agenda will include the nomination report, election of officers and the annual financial statement.

Everyone is welcome, but only society members are eligible to vote.

Sexual Health Presentation-Springhill

" Parents Talking with Young Children about Sexuality"

A program for parents (video and discussion, hosted by Ruthie Patriquin, Sexual Health Centre for Cumberland County )

Springhill Miners Memorial Library,

Tuesday, February 7, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Why talking to young children is important: It helps keep children safe; children have questions and need clear honest answers; talking with young children helps pave the way to talk about sexual issues as they get older.

Don't have childcare that night? Library staff will offer a children's story time and craft.

Pre-register by calling the Library 597-2211. Space is limited.

Presented free by Cumberland Public Libraries and the Sexual Health Centre for Cumberland County

02-09-2012 Land trust Information Session-Sackville

The New Brunswick Community Land Trust will be hosting a series of information sessions concerning conservation tools available to farmers and woodlot owners interested in keeping their land in sustainable, healthy production for future generations.These working lands conservation easements allow landowners to maintain ownership and production of their land while protecting it from certain development and activities now and in the future. The NBCLT is the only group in N.B. with a focus on working land conservation tools, and would like to get the word out to land owners who may be interested in learning more about working land conservation.  Information seasons will be held in the following communities:  Sackville - Feb 9th -7:00-8:30pm @ the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #26, 15 Lorne St. Sackville N.B.

Christ Church in Amherst will be holding its annual pancake supper in the parish hall from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. 

Curl For Cancer
Curling Fun Night at the Amherst Curling Club.  6 pm to midnight.  Proceeds to CRHCC Palliative Care Programs.



02-14-2012 Hockey Day Events-Amherst
The Town of Amherst will be celebrating Canada’s game on Saturday while supporting Special Olympics in Amherst. The Amherst Ramblers and the Cumberland County Minor Hockey Association are joining forces for the day to hold Hockey Day in Cumberland. The events will coincide with the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada celebration from Prince Edward Island. The day will feature four minor hockey games beginning at 11:45 a.m. when the Atom AA Ramblers host Lewisville and wrapping up at 5 p.m. when the Novice Kent Ramblers play Bedford. Other games include the Peewee A Ramblers against Pictou County at 1:30 p.m. and the Bantam AA Ramblers playing Acadia at 3:15 p.m. The finale will feature a battle for Bent Division supremacy as the second-place Ramblers host the first-place Yarmouth Mariners at 7 p.m. There will be 50-50 ticket sales throughout the day at the rink with a draw during the novice game. Minor hockey is also selling tickets on a Martin Brodeur autographed jersey while Carter’s Sports Cresting is donating small cowbells that will be sold at the rink during the day and at the Ramblers’ game. The Ramblers are going to provide $1 for every ticket over what has been its average attendance of 755. Scotiabank’s Victoria Street branch in Amherst is going to match what is donated with all the proceeds going to support Special Olympics.

Sexual Health Centre Drop-In-Amherst
On Tuesday, February 14 (Valentine’s Day), weather- permitting, the Sexual Health Centre for Cumberland County will hold a special “Drop-in” from 2-4 p.m. at our 11 Elmwood Dr. (SIDE Entrance) office in Amherst. Anyone dropping in will qualify for a draw. The lucky winner may choose either a book for parents to help them talk to their children about sexuality, OR a box of condoms (144), OR the Sexual Health Centre’s youth DVD, “I Can Wait”.

Sackville Legion Bingo

Sackville Legion Bingo, every Tuesday evening at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, 15 Lorne Street, Sackville NB at 6:45 pm. Door open at 6:00 pm. No person under 16 years of age. more call 506 364 9900

02-19-2012 Bluegrass and Country Folk Concert-Amherst
CFTA 107.9 FM will present a Bluegrass and Country/ Folk Music Concert on Sunday afternoon February 19th starting at 2:00 at the Lions Den in Amherst.  Admission is $10.00 per person


02-21-2012 Pancake Supper-Dorchester
Trinity Anglican Church Women in Dorchester will be holding a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on February 21 from 4:30 - 6:30 at St. Edward's Community Hall on Main Street. Menu includes pancakes, sausages, beans and assorted sweets. Cost is $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for children under 12. Money raised supports the ongoing work of Trinity church.


02-25-2012 Ruddick Family Concert-Springhill
The ruddick Family and friends will perform in concert on saturday night February 25th at 6:30 PM at the Dr. carson and Marion Murray Community Centre in Springhill.  It is part of the African heritage Month Celebrations.  Tickets are $8.00 in advance and $10.00 at the door.  Children under 12 are free.  Tickets available at the Community Centre and CANSA. 


02-28-2012 Dick's Jamboree-Amherst

Dick’s Jamboree is a great part of our arts, culture and heritage community. Every Tuesday music fans gather at 2 Victoria Street West at 7pm to hear wonderful musicians from all over the area as well as the occasional touring musician.
